About Pediatric Dentistry
India Dental Clinic provides information about Pedodontics/Children Dentistry, dental care for kids in India. The little patients need comprehensive dental care, as a child is naturally the most precious creation and every measure should be taken to preserve the "healthy smile" of this creation. There may not be denying this fact that every parent cares for their children more than themselves. However, in the tender age when their white pearls are sprouting, these kids need the care of a compassionate, tolerant and a well trained Pedodontist (Pediatric Dentist). Dental procedures can be one of a child's most uncomfortable experiences if not handled correctly. They can have adverse psychological effects for the remainder of the child's life with regard to both future dental experiences, and how they relate to other healthcare professionals.

There is characteristic difference in children dentistry or pediatric dentistry from other branches of dentistry at Indian dental clinics. The pedodontia or pediatric dental care aims at complete and comprehensive health, including psychological needs, to the patient preventing the onset of disease with pediatric medicines and instills a positive attitude towards dental health. Children should be introduced to the dental surgery in a non-threatening manner, ideally when only an examination is necessary. Topical anaesthesia should be used. A preventive dental care and interceptive orthodontics for kids with India Dental Clinic proves the best investment for life.

Baby Teeth
Baby teeth have several important functions in the development of the permanent teeth of your child. The well maintained baby teeth have proper spacing and alignment for the permanent teeth when they come in. The child will not have any speech problem. The children with healthy baby teeth or without any tooth decay are able to chew food properly and manage well nutritional health. So much so that even before the first tooth appears in child’s mouth, it is good to use a soft, clean cloth to wipe your baby's gums and cheeks after feeding. This can help prevent the build-up of bacteria that can discolor primary teeth or baby teeth. After teeth begin to appear (erupt), they can be brushed with a soft children’s toothbrush and pea-size children toothpaste. The parents only can prevent Baby Bottle Tooth Decay, also called nursing bottle mouth or early childhood caries, to help child maintain healthy baby teeth. Also, decayed baby teeth can cause pain and infections. Decay can even spread to the permanent teeth. Remember, twenty baby teeth – eight incisors (four front teeth on both the upper and lower jaw), four canines (located in the front of the jaw behind the incisors) and eight molars (larger teeth in the back of the mouth) – typically erupt by the time a child is 3 years old. Eruption of the lower teeth generally precedes eruption of the top teeth. The tooth eruption time for girls generally precedes that for boys. Your child's general health can be affected if diseased baby teeth aren't treated. The children dentists always advocate cautious use of fluoridated toothpaste, lest child faces another condition called fluorosis.

Baby Bottle Tooth Decay
It has often been experienced that a slight neglect brings the primary teeth of an infant or young child to get affected by baby bottle tooth decay, also called nursing bottle mouth or early childhood caries. This condition develops when a baby frequently receives a bottle of milk, formula, fruit juice, or sweetened liquids, which are meant to serve as a pacifier.  Prolonged “demand” breast feeding (such as when baby sleeps much of the night at mother’s breast) may also cause this condition.  Although the teeth most likely to be affected are the upper front teeth, others become affected as they come into the mouth. The presence of bacteria in the plaque produces acids and becomes a reason for tooth decay. The child ends up with having necessary treatments like Pulpotomy or Pulpectomy, followed by pedo crowns or even pedo partials. This can be either provided by the Pedodontist or an Endodontist. So, putting baby to bed with a bottle of milk, formula, fruit juice, or sweetened liquid is best avoided, as such children also pick up thumbsucking habit.

Child’s First Dental Visit
It is always a good idea to schedule regular dental checkups beginning by the child’s very first birthday. At your child’s first routine visit to Indian dental center the dentist will gently examine his or her teeth and gums. X-rays may be taken in order to reveal any decay and check on the progress of the teeth that are still forming. A gentle cleaning may also be done besides applying topical fluoride to help protect against decay. The child should start learning right from the beginning that poor dental care can easily lead to childhood gum disease. Gum (periodontal) disease is a slow painless disease that causes serious infections to the tissues around the teeth. Unchecked gum disease can cause teeth to fall out and bone to erode, creating major problems for permanent teeth if and when they come in.

Fluorides – The Preventive Treatment
Most countries have public water supplies systems that serve the community by adding adequate levels of fluoride in their drinking water. It has been demonstrated that the action of fluoride in preventing tooth decay provides a benefit to children and adults throughout their lives. The health benefits of fluoridation include a reduction in the frequency and severity of dental decay, a decrease in the need for tooth extractions and fillings, a reduction in pain and suffering associated with tooth decay, and the obvious elevation of self-esteem that goes with improved functioning and appearance. For certain other anomalies, the affected patient can get the topical fluoride treatment at the listed dental office of India Dental Clinic. Fluoride works two ways: systemically, meaning it strengthens teeth internally, under the gums in the jawbone. Externally, fluoride strengthens tooth enamel on the surface of the teeth. Children between 6 months and age 16 should take in fluoride every day.

Tooth Injuries & Sports
Due to their formative years, the primary teeth are not as strong and are vulnerable to injuries that can cause them to chip, fracture or completely come loose. When a tooth is knocked out, appropriate emergency medical and dental care is necessary. These injuries often occur as the result of falls, mishaps during play or accidents during athletics. If a child suffers an injury to the gums or a baby tooth that causes bleeding, parents may be advised to run cold water over a piece of gauze and apply pressure gently to the injury site. Sucking on an ice pop may be recommended to reduce swelling until the child can see a dentist. It is to be remembered that unlike permanent teeth, because they cannot be reimplanted. Replanting a baby tooth can damage developing permanent teeth and often results in death of the pulp. However, a permanent tooth can often be saved if prompt action is taken, and the tooth is handled carefully. The delicate tissue covering the root must be protected to ensure successful re-implantation. It is quite normal for children to indulge in sporting activities. As a preventive measure from injuries during sports, have your child wear a properly fitted mouth guard during sports activities. Custom-made mouth guards provide the best comfort and protection to your child’s teeth, lips, tongue, face and jaw, as well as optimizing healthy breathing. It also makes it easier for them to talk.

Fissure Sealants
It is common for many children to be applied dental sealants at dental clinics in India to protect from tooth decay starting from pits and fissures. These are plastic coatings that are placed on the chewing surfaces of teeth and protect against cavities in the deep pits and grooves. Sealants last for many years and these are cheap and the best protection for permanent molars and premolars in children. The timely application of sealants and fluoride offer the best combination for maximum protection against the cavities.

Diet for Dental Health
It must be ensured that the child is getting enough nutrients for good general and oral health. The healthy diet can be placed in the four basic food groups: fruits and vegetables, breads and cereals, milk and dairy products, and meat, fish, and eggs. However, the common advice would be to avoid sweets, sticky foods and between-meal snacks is good advice. Limit sweet snacks and drinks between and after meals. The meals and snacks should be at regular times. Too much snacking between meals can cause cavities. Teeth-friendly snacks include fresh fruits and vegetables, and cheese and crackers. The deficient children can be given vitamin and mineral supplements under due advice by the dentist. A high intake of dietary calcium is essential for growth of strong bones and teeth. The kids allergic to milk can compensate by taking:

- Dairy products like cheese, yoghurt or milk-based custards.
- Sardines and other fish that contain fine bones can be eaten.
- Nuts like almonds, etc. for calcium and protein (not for very young children).
- Leafy green vegetables such as broccoli, spinach and bok choy.
- Breakfast cereals fortified with calcium.
- Soy drinks fortified with calcium.
