The Bangalore Fort and Palace

The Fort of Bangalore was built by Kempe Gowda and was later expanded by the legendary king Tipu Sultan. This summer palace has been constructed largely of wood and is famous for its carving and paintings. The Venkataramanaswamy temple, built in the 17th century by the Wodeyar family is a splendid example of Dravidian temple architecture. Within its periphery is the well preserved 16th century Ganapathi Temple. Nearby is The Palace Hyder Ali begun and Tipu completed.



Lal Bagh

This botanical gardens has over 1000 species of flora. The Glass House is the center of attraction in this 2400-acre park. The ancient ruler Hyder Ali laid it out and later his son added horticultural wealth to them by importing trees and plants from several countries.



Cubbon Park

This 120-hectare wooded and flowered park was laid out in the heart of the Bangalore bivouac in 1864. Since then, more fairy fountains, august bandstand and a wealth of flora have been added. The other most attractive aspect of Cubbon Park is the upcoming newer buildings.



Vidhana Soudha

This splendid building is a marvel of modern architecture and is a perfect amalgamation of traditional neo-Dravidian and modern styles. It is the home of the State Legislature and the Secretariat and dominates the northern boundary of the Cubbon Park. The most spectacular feature of this imposing building is the massive sandalwood door of the Cabinet room. It becomes beautiful on a holiday evening when lit with myriad lights.



The Bull Temple

Kempe Gowda built this temple. The center of reverence is a magnificent Nandi, which is 15 feet tall and over 20 feet long. A festival is celebrated here each year in November or December every year. When the groundnuts have been harvested, a groundnut fair is held near the temple. The farmers offer the first groundnuts to the sacred bull.



The Gangadhareshware Temple (Cave Temple)

This temple is also built by Kempe Gowda and is famous for its four monolithic pillars and rare idol of Agni, the God of fire. Every year in January, the rays of the setting sun enter through the window, pass between the horns of the Nandi and shine on the Shivalingam, in a unique phenomenon.



Dargah Hazarath Tawakkal Mastan

The Dargah of the Sufi saint, Tawakkal Mastan, and his tomb attracts both Muslim and non-Muslim piligrims. This Cottonpet Muslim shrine is associated with the Hindu Karaga festival too.



Bannerghatta National Park

Going to a zoo can be a vastly different experience from seeing animals in the wild. Although the Bannerghatta Park is not on the scale of Jim Corbett National Park, it does give nature lovers a glimpse of wild animals in their natural habitat. Another major attraction now in the park area is a Butterfly park. It houses a large variety of these colourful creatures that you feel tempted to hold them. But do not touch them and see them flying all over the place.



Bal Bhavan

Bangalore Bal Bhavan is a beautifully planned amusement park as well as a recreation center, designed for children. There is a small toy train inside the park that runs on a track of almost 3/4th mile inside the beautiful Cubbon Park. Apart from the train, the other attractions of the Bal Bhavan include a Dolls Museum, which boats of a rich assortment of dolls and toys collected from different parts of the world.
