India Dental Clinic provides information on affordable dental bone grafting during your dental tourism in India. In a situation when teeth are lost (extractions) due to periodontal disease or root canals not followed in time with a crowns, over time the jaw bone has tendency to shrink or “resorb”. Bone grafting is done that aims to replace missing bone and also to stimulate new bone growth. Bone grafting, sinus lifts and barrier membranes are bone augmentation procedures that may be required to help correct bone deficiency and provide adequate support for dental implants. Depending on extent of bone deficiency augmentation procedures may be performed at time of implant placement or as a separate appointment.
Besides dental implants, over the many years now the new and expanded areas of bone grafting treatment techniques in India have become routine in oral and dental surgery, and is used most frequently to prepare the jaw bone to provide better support for full dentures, or correcting bone defects caused by the removal of cysts, tooth extraction, or gum disease. More extensive bone grafts treatment can also play an important part in reconstructive surgery for severe trauma, disfiguring diseases such as oral cancer, or congenital conditions such as cleft palate, procedures performed at inexpensive dental clinics in India.
The routinely adopted bone grafting and guided bone regeneration (GBR) have seen tremendous growth in many dental care practices listing of India Dental Clinic. The cost of bone grafting procedure being affordable in India, often the removable partial denture wearers opt it comfortably to prepare for single replacement dental implant or even Implant Bridges.
Sinus Lift Surgery
Sinus Lift or bone augmentation procedure is necessary in a situation when there is not enough bone in the upper jaw for placing the implants. The bone is added to the upper jaw in the area of molars and premolars to make it taller. The bone is added between your jaw and the maxillary sinuses, which are on either side of your nose. To make room for the bone, the sinus membrane has to be moved upward, or "lifted." The bone is added also for the reason when sinuses are too close to the jaw where implant is to be placed. A sinus lift surgery in India usually is done by an oral and maxillofacial surgeon or a Periodontist.
The chosen Indian dentist at India Dental Clinic will further explain you that it takes quite a few months for the bony material to harden and integrate with your jaw, depending on what bone material has been used. Once the proper healing has happened, the implants will be placed. If your own bone is used in the procedure, you may wait as few as six months. If cadaverous or synthetic bone is used, you will need to wait longer, usually nine to 12 months. The relatively new and a bit expensive technique using proteins called growth factors to help the new bone harden faster is also showing greater success. Platelet Rich Plasma or PRGF, which contain the growth factors, is taken from your blood before surgery and mixed with the graft that is placed into your sinus. Contraindication or risk of failure occurs when the sinus membrane is punctured or torn. The surgeon will however stitch back the sinus opening and give the perforation time of about 2 months to heal. A healed membrane tends to be thicker and stronger, which means a second attempt at a sinus lift is likely to be successful. On rare occasions, your existing bone does not integrate with the bony graft material, and the grafted area does not develop a blood supply. If this happens, any implants placed in this area will fail because there is no live bone for them to attach to. If this happens, you can have the sinus lift procedure repeated. Infection is also a risk of any surgical procedure though it rarely occurs in sinus lifts. The post-op instructions to be followed as may be advised by the surgeon in your dental holiday tour to India.
Bone Augmentation and Nerve Repositioning
For any tooth implant placement to be successful at dental clinic India, the patient must have enough bone in the jaw. It is often encountered that many dental implant prospects do not have enough bone because of tooth loss from periodontal (gum) disease, injury or trauma, or one or the other developmental defects. If your jaw is too short (up and down), too narrow (side to side), or both, you will need a procedure to add bone to your jaw before implants can be placed by dental implantologist in India. Bone augmentation procedures in India are used to "build" bone so that dental implants can be placed. These procedures typically involve grafting (adding) bone or bonelike materials to the jaw, and waiting for the grafted material to fuse with the existing bone over several months. Your dentist will choose the right kind of bone augmentation procedures depending on the type, location and number of implants to be used.
The procedure is performed using local anesthesia to numb the area where the bone augmentation is needed (recipient site) as well as the area from where bone will be removed (donor site). The dentist first will make an incision (cut) in the gum where the implant will be placed to determine how much and what type of bone is needed. The dentist will first drill little holes in the existing bone to cause bleeding and place the removed bone in the recipient site. This is done because blood provides cells that help the bone heal. The block of bone that was removed from the chin will be anchored in place with titanium screws. A mixture of the patient's bone marrow and some other bone-graft material will then be placed around the edges of bone block. Finally, the dentist will place a membrane over the area and will stitch the incision closed.
You will be prescribed antibiotics, pain medication and an antibacterial mouthwash for use after the bone augmentation procedure. If you are a denture wearer, it may have to be kept aside for at least a month to avoid putting pressure on the area while it heals. You may also have to switch over to softer foods. If you have natural teeth near the bone graft, your dentist may make a temporary removable bridge to help protect the area. The bone graft will take about 6 to 12 months to heal before dental implants can be placed. At that time, the titanium screws used to anchor the bone block in place will be removed before the implant is placed. If your case is that of missing several teeth and needing several implants for single crowns or overdenture, your own bone probably will have to be taken from your hip, shin or another site. This type of procedure is done in the dental hospital India under general anesthesia, and requires an overnight stay.
Another type of augmentation procedure is called ridge expansion or augmentation. This type of bone graft is done when the jaw lacks enough width to support dental implants. Your dentist uses a special saw to split the jaw along the top (ridge) and packs graft material into the newly created space. It is dependent on the newly achieved condition of the jaw bone that some dentists in India will place tooth implants directly after this procedure. Others will wait several months for the ridge to heal. This procedure is generally performed in the dental office in India under local anesthesia.
Nerve Repositioning: In a situation when there is a significant loss of bone in the lower jaw, there is every possibility of damaging the inferior alveolar nerve when placing implants that runs through it. This nerve gives feeling to the lower lip and chin. To address this problem, an oral surgeon can drill a small window in the bone and move the nerve to one side. The implants then can be placed through the bony canal previously filled by the nerve. This technique is not used very often because it is possible to damage the nerve just by moving it.
There are five different categories of bone graft materials. But it is for your surgeon to make a decision with respect to the bone graft material most suitable to your individual needs.
Autograft or autogenous bone graft
Allograft or allogenic bone graft
Xenograft or xenogenic bone graft
Alloplast or alloplastic bone graft
Growth Factors (PRP or PRGF)
